For sale: a Sony TC-K950ES stereo cassette deck from Sony’s highly regarded ES series.
The unit originally arrived with no audio output and has since undergone extensive electronic and mechanical restoration. Significant electrolyte leakage from ageing capacitors had damaged several circuit-board traces and affected the positive and negative supply rails for the integrated circuits and operational amplifiers.
Earlier repair work was also corrected, including the removal of low-quality replacement capacitors and loose jumper wires. The deck has now been rebuilt using high-quality replacement components, with film capacitors installed where suitable.
The tape transport, head alignment, pinch rollers, tape guides, power supply, and BSL motor circuitry were also repaired and carefully adjusted. Following the work, the deck produced an excellent measured frequency response on the technician’s test setup.
